As I get older I appreciate more and more the people I'm blessed to know in my life. Recently, I wanted to do something special for my parents to show them how much I love them. This can be hard to do when distance is what keeps me from seeing them regularly. I recognize, now, the sacrifices they've made, the discipline they used because they care, and the protection they maintained for my sisters and I. Since giving them a hug once a week isn't possible, I decided to do the next best thing...interior decorate a room they spend a lot of time in.
When I decorate my own home I use sentimental items to create a space. Decorative items that have personal or family history can easily fill a room with memories. I wanted my parents to have the same experience when they walked into their room. To confirm I fulfilled that goal I needed to hear those four simple words, "this feels like home". Mission accomplished!
It can feel better to give than to receive.
